Region IIV Transition

The Region VII Transition program aims to help high school students with disabilities transition to life after graduation, whether it is attending a vocational school, learning a trade or getting a job.

The transition coordinator meets with teachers and students each fall to identify students on a 504 Plan or an IEP who are eligible for services. Those students who wish to take advantage of transition services can partake in a variety of activities, including job application and resume lessons, interest inventories to determine a career path, college and vocational school tours, Job Corps tours and referral to the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation for post-school assistance with tuition or finding a job.

The transition coordinator will also provide students with opportunities to shadow jobs or professions in which they might be interested.

The transition coordinator generally begins working with a student in his or her junior year of school, but can also start earlier if the student is going to need additional time for transitioning to post-school life.

The Region VII Transition Program is funded through a grant from the state Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
